Lonnie Desorcy
Lonnie has been a certified yoga teacher since 1999. She recently became one of the first to be certified as a yoga therapist through Mount Royal University. She has been a yoga student since 1980.
Over these many years Lonnie has pursued many different yogic paths (Iyengar, restorative, MBSR, yoga with weights to name a few) and gained varied benefits (for example: stress relief, increased muscle tone, improved self-confidence, relief from sore back, enhanced body awareness, pre- and post natal fitness, spiritual support). Perhaps above all else, Lonnie has seen how yoga provides tools and methodology to deal with whatever life brings. She believes that the "right" way to do yoga depends on the person, their place in life, and the purpose.
Coordinating the suggestions of many medical and kinesiologic practitioners with her own experience, she resolved shoulder and knee injuries through focused core strengthening and limb mobilization, and this type of work informs her instruction of students. In addition to general hatha yoga methodology, Lonnie also has specialized training in meditation, yoga therapeutics and yoga for children. She has an evolving interest in how yoga can ameliorate asynchronous development in children and adults, and especially in it applicability to psychological and spiritual issues. has embarked on a two-year Spiritual Direction that commenced in fall, 2009.
Philosophically, Lonnie believes and teaches that we need to treat ourselves gently while also ensuring that we are expanding our personal limits and evolving as humans. She finds inspiration in nature, and discovers beauty in the ordinariness of daily life. She hopes to share some of the many benefits with you!
